[nonostantement #147] - billie eilish / line rider track / nf & vulnerability
Now with MORE cyberpunk vibes!
Welcome to nonostantement: a weekly newsletter with civilized, unpleasant and singular stuff found all over the Internet.
Hola familia, Joele here from Barcelona with my usual mail full of links from last week - a lot of amazing stuff today so let’s start!
Soundtrack? Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92, of course.
Don’t forget that if you like this newsletter you can now offer me a virtual coffee to show your support :)
#MUSIC
[Video] - I have been waiting for a nice Cyberpunk video game for thirty years so I am really pumped by the nice video by Run The Jewels - the aesthetics of “Cyberpunk 2077” is just… amazing.
[Video] - Don’t miss this link - it could be #tech, or #thedarkside, or #art or #whatever: thousands of cover videos of a track by Billie Eilish, automatically searched and selected by a software, synchronized and displayed in an endless stream. Somewhere there is probably also a reference to the interconnectedness of the entire universe (lol).
#PEOPLE
If you are wondering what people with tremendous talent, attention to detail and endless patience are doing lately... they are probably creating something like this “Line Rider Track”. Astounding piece of work.
I normally skip articles about productivity or self-help but there are several points in this one by the Harvard Business Review that make me think it might be useful to many of you. The line about “Talking to unqualified prospects” as a 10$ per hour task is so true it hurts.
I have great respect for the work of chef René Redzepi, I had read about the reopening of his restaurant as a burger joint and seeing that it is confirmed seems to me an excellent example of his capacity to recover quickly from difficulties and find new solutions to new problems (no, I am not going to use that word everybody is using lately ;) ).
[In Italian] - an AMAZING copyright-free archive of independent magazines, books and zines on activism and hacker culture in Italy at the end of the last millennium. That’s the stuff I grew up with.
[Video] - Hey guys, I have found something cool on TikTok
[Video] - Every now and then on YouTube you will find some gem like this one, which from an in-depth analysis of a young rapper abilities we get to discuss about Foucault, the power of vulnerability and how to free yourself from shame.
#PHOTOGRAPHY
Portraits of Artists - “Stored alongside original letters, diaries, and sketchbooks in the Smithsonian’s Archives of American Art are thousands of photographs of artists and art world figures. This set includes nineteenth and early twentieth-century images that provide a glimpse into the private lives.”
In Mumbai the ceilings of taxis are embellished with art of all kinds - there is a girl who is making a nice collection on Instragram.
#THEDARKSIDE
Dozens of leaked documents from Amazon’s Global Security Operations Center reveal the company is spying warehouse workers and monitoring labor unions, environmental activists, and other social movements.
What could go wrong when China pushes for a global travel system that would use QR codes to “open up international travel”?
The New York Times created an A.I. system to understand how easy it is to generate different fake faces - the system sees each face as a complex mathematical figure, a range of values that can be shifted.
That's it for now.
