NOW with more pink elephants ON PARADE!
Welcome to nonostantement: a weekly newsletter with staggering, disagreeable and adorable stuff found all over the Internet.
Buona domenica, this is Joele, a quite decent human being living in Barcelona and working mostly all the time at online branding strategies. This is my weekly newsletter with all the interesting links I have found during last week.
A couple of random tracks you could listen to while reading this email: Capitol K — Landlocked or György Ligeti — Musica ricercata No. 7 in B-Flat Major.
#PHOTOGRAPHY
I usually don't really appreciate this kind of images (the light, the retouching)... but in this case the subjects seem to me interesting enough to be shown: Portraits of the incredible craftspeople of Peru
#SOCIALMEDIA
“It’s business rather than politics,” Mr. Nimmo said. “It’s not one country targeting another country. It looks like an operation to promote a major multinational’s interests — and to do it against a European state.” – Inside a Pro-Huawei Influence Campaign
[Video] - An interesting interview to Mike Krieger, co-founder of Instagram, on how he took it from an idea to a global platform used by over a billion people.
[Video] - I just LOVE this commercial - Travelling Under the Social Influence - it has everything I need right now: humor, New Zealand and of course making fun of Instagram Influencers with their useless - repeated - photos of the same places. One thing I absolutely don't miss from the pre-pandemic period is having to constantly dodge the tourists who ALL take the same pictures in the SAME places in Barcelona…

#PEOPLE
[Video] - I loved hearing James Cutler, the architect of Bill Gates’ house talk about his own cabinet, so beautiful and immersed in nature. It's always so nice and inspiring to see a talented professional show what he does without putting his ego in front of the narrative of his work.
Why are we - humans - so prone to finding “phantom patterns” and why does this help us - in any way?
Lego experimented with over 10,000 blocks to design the perfect Lego ‘white noise’ playlist to revive your focus from playing with bricks. My favorite one is “Searching for the one (brick)”
[In Italian] - "Laggare" per copiare o saltare la lezione: tutti i trucchi degli studenti in DAD - Having been part of this ingenious category for years, I am not surprised that students who have not studied are able to find fantastic techniques to avoid being questioned online by teachers.
[Video(s)] - I just leave here a couple of amazing videos: Dumbo Pink Elephants on Parade and 30 Minutes of Relaxing Visuals from Studio Ghibli
[Video] - How the Police Killed Breonna Taylor - another incredible investigative journalism work by The New York Times on a topic that has practically never been talked about around here (at least in Spain or in Italy).
#TECH
[Video] - VR Mind Control: ok this is one of the coolest things I have seen in recent years. We are at the beginning of something big - I hope to be able to see it applied in mass products soon!
There is definitely more of a skirmish going on between Facebook and Apple - it’s clear. Here we have Tim Cook discussing "Why It's Time to Fight the" Data-Industrial Complex" with GQ magazine - (here in a [Video] with more detailed arguments) and then obviously Facebook is preparing an antitrust lawsuit against Apple. Well, let’s grab the popcorn!
That's it for now.
