Welcome to nonostantement: a weekly newsletter with vitriolic, offensive and absorbing stuff found all over the Internet.
Hello everyone and welcome to that part of this newsletter that no one actually reads, where I introduce myself and tell what this email is for (I'm Joele, and this email collects the links I found during the past week). From here on it gets more interesting.
Soundtrack for this week's email:

Special non-related guest: Toni Esposito - L'eroe di plastica.

#PEOPLE
A guide from The New York Times on how to deal with unknown pieces of information (or misinformation/fake news), when critical thinking is no longer enough.
And so it seems that - wow so surprising - after BLM protests the killings by the police in the US have really dropped (body-camera use and community policing have done their part as well)
[Video] [In Italian] - a fascinating short documentary about the underground scene of Bologna, Italy - I was lucky enough to live in that city twenty years ago when some of these movements were still active. [Video] - before going back to watching videos of complete strangers telling you about their intimate life - just stop for a second and watch this parody. It is so close to the reality of some of the content we all watch for hours… that it kinda scared me.
For the very first time in a year (tomorrow is exactly one year for me) since the start of lockdowns and the social distancing thing I felt for the first time that I was missing a bar - this one here.

Pretty much all TV brands only sell "smart" TVs (which come full of tracking systems, unsolicited ads and stuff like that ) - that's why we need to defend "dumb" TVs.
There is this thing going on that everything they do at amazon just works ... but obviously it doesn't. For example it looks like there is no way for them to be successful in the luxury market (for now ;) )
#THEDARKSIDE
An interesting report by the BBC about the growth of multilevel-marketing schemes in the UK built around beauty brands, using influencers and platforms like instagram.
So, if you've ever wondered if it was just your perception that right-wing misinformation on Facebook received more interactions than the one from the other political side… it seems that we now have a research to prove it.
[Video] Two designers found their product copied by Amazon itself and it seems that the marketplace could systemically use data from third-party sellers to develop its own products and that’s something of which they have often been accused.
That's it for now.
