Now with MORE pictures from Helsinki!
Welcome to nonostantement: a weekly newsletter with actual, crippling and charming stuff found all over the Internet.
Here we are! i'm Joele - I work in digital and I'm based in Barcelona - we have reached another Sunday after another week of hard work so probably this newsletter, in which I collect the best links found during the week, will be shorter than usual. By the way, I have to give a 3 hour workshop tomorrow morning on online communities and I have 4 slides ready, so...

Soundtrack for this email: Nina Simone: Strange Fruit. And if you haven’t seen it yet, go watch “The birth of a nation” right now.
#PEOPLE (OR ANIMALS)
“This list of animals with fraudulent diplomas includes nonhuman animals who have been submitted as applicants to suspected diploma mills, and have gotten a diploma.”
[Video] [In Italian] - Paolo Villaggio per Democrazia Proletaria - the speech of the Italian actor Paolo Villaggio explaining why he ran for the "Proletarian Democracy" party.
In the United States the deployment of vaccines is certainly more advanced than here in Europe (at least in Spain and Italy, the two countries I know best). In the last few days, many articles are coming out about the "end" of a certain period (lockdown, health restrictions) and how to get out of it. Among the articles I found this one, which talks about how to start spending less time online, the most interesting.
Every now and then I go back to read something about the "Waste Isolation Pilot Plant" - which is a topic that I find truly fascinating: how to "pass on" the danger of some toxic waste in the future, for at least 10,000 years? A challenge that has been asked to solve to geologists, linguists, astrophysicists, architects, artists, and writers. Amazing stuff.
#PHOTOGRAPHY
The death of the amateur photograph - “In the ten years between 2010 and 2020, the amateur photograph was transformed from a tool of documentation and expression into a means for advancing one’s value in ‘the personality market’.”
Get ready to waste a couple of days in Helsinki photo archive - lots of great material!
#ART
This Artwork Does Not Exist: every time you reload the website use generative adversarial network (GAN) to create a new image of artwork that don't actually exist. "What is art?"
#THEDARKSIDE
The SafetyDetectives cybersecurity team uncovered an open ElasticSearch database exposing an organized fake reviews scam affecting Amazon.
Signal tried to publish some ads on Facebook and Instagram but the platform did not allow them. The adverts showed some of the user information that is collected by these social networks and Facebook don't seem to like it.
Tesla was definitely a form of revolution in the automotive market (especially in the US) and what other brands have learned and are implementing? The worst part, of course: making your car a paid subscription system (do you want to go faster? Pay $ 40 more a month and we free your engine!). Great.
That's it for now.
