[nonostantement #177] - sikh free food / online iraqi women / chinese content farms

NOW with MORE chinese workers manufacturing products!

Welcome to nonostantement: a weekly newsletter with legitimateconfusing and romantic stuff found all over the Internet.

Hi everyone, my name is Joele, I live in Barcelona and I work managing online presence of brands, companies and institutions. While I'm on the Internet I find interesting things that I then send to my friends every Sunday with this same email.

A couple of random tracks I've been listening to lately, you can use them as soundtrack for this newsletter: Blundetto - Mahayana, Marvin Gaye - Inner City Blues.

  • Because of the work I do, I am obviously very interested in how people (as groups, tribes, or individuals) live online. I must admit that the invasion of a certain mainstream culture we just witnessed during last year… has tired me a little. I therefore find it quite exciting to read about how the Internet it is used by people who do not have the same privileges as we do: Three Iraqi women explain how and why they stay anonymous online.

  • How workers manufacturing products like aloe jelly and gardening gloves also became the influencers selling them. The Chinese content farms behind Factory TikTok.
